The seven Heart of Iowa Activities Conference schools had their girls and boys track & field squads in Monroe on Thursday for the conference meet. Greene County placed second in the boys’ team race and fifth on the girls’ side and won a total of eight events, four for girls and four for boys.

Roland-Story (Story City) won both team titles. The Norsemen had 143 boys’ points to 111 for the Rams, 108 by South Hamilton (Jewell), 97 for PCM, 66 from Nevada, 40 by West Marshall (State Center), and 23 points for Saydel (Des Moines).

R-S won the girls title with 130 and Nevada was second at 122. Then, it was PCM 99, SH 83, the Rams 80, WM 56, and 15 for Saydel.

Coach Derek Merk’s girls were strong in the field with wins in three of the four events in the field. Senior Brooklynn Olson won both the shot put at 38′ 2″, and the discus throw at 114′ 3″. Senior Brianna Osterson won the long jump at 15′ 10-3/4″. The one win on the track for Greene County came from sophomore Olivia Shannon in the 200 meter dash in 27.83 seconds.

Coach Chad Morton’s boys won the 10 flight shuttle hurdle relay in 1:02.44 with senior Jaxon Warnke and juniors Nate Black, Bryce Stalder, and Jackson Morton. Morton won the 110 meter high hurdles in 15.45 seconds, and he won the 400 meter low hurdles in 58.45 seconds. Junior Logan Woodruff won the 3,200 meter run in 10:49.14, and was second by .01 in the 1,600 meters.

The regular season for the Rams is over. The Greene County teams will go to Manson on Thursday, May 13 for a Coed State Qualifying Meet starting at 4 p.m. State qualifiers will compete at Drake Stadium in Des Moines May 20-21-22.
