The Bernie Saggau Award is among the most prestigious honors an Iowa high school senior can receive, and Greene County High School’s 2021 recipient is Zach Goff. The award is named after the former longtime Executive Secretary of the Iowa High School Athletic Association. It is presented annually to the graduating student who best exemplifies a patriotic spirit, with strong religious and moral convictions, living and professing the qualities of honesty, integrity, and sportsmanship; believing that both games and life should be conducted by the rules.

Goff received honors as a varsity athlete for the Rams in football and basketball. He was an All-District second team selection as a receiver in football, playing receiver and defensive back for the Rams, who went 7-3 and advanced to the Class 2A playoffs round of 16. He also earned basketball All-Conference honorable mention recognition in the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference, and was the lone senior on the boys’ team.
