The South Hamilton (Jewell) high school baseball and softball teams visit Jefferson tonight to face the Greene County Rams. Softball is at the City Diamond on East Lincolnway, and baseball is at Allensworth Field east of the middle school.

Coach Tom Kennedy’s softball Rams will be opening the season tonight. They were 5-11 in the COVID-19 2020 abbreviated season. A number of starters return, including several players who are in their third seasons in the lineup as the Rams try to stop a string of losing records each of the past four seasons.

The Greene County boys are 0-1 after dropping their Heart of Iowa Activities Conference opener on Wednesday night at Story City vs. Roland-Story. The Rams and Nodaway Valley played into the top of the fifth inning in Jefferson on Tuesday night before lightning suspended play. In 10-1/3 innings of pitching, Greene County has walked 17 opposing batters.
