A small burn pile is to blame for a large tire fire Tuesday afternoon at a Grand Junction business.

Greene County Sheriff Jack Williams tells Raccoon Valley Radio, the Sheriff’s Office, along with Grand Junction, Jefferson, Churdan and Scranton fire departments, as well as Greene County Ambulance responded to the incident at Neese Incorporated at 1:03pm Tuesday. Williams says several tires were on fire when they arrived on scene, but fire crews were able to control it and not allow any neighboring property to be damaged.

Williams says no one was injured and they were on scene for about 3.5 hours. He adds, the cause of the tire fire, which drew smoke that could be seen for miles, was from a small burn pile that was located a few feet from the tires.
