Adair County is celebrating its 125th county fair, as it kicks-off today in Greenfield. There are several activities taking place.

The main highlight of the morning is the livestock weigh-in. Then in the afternoon at 2 p.m. is the dog show and at 4 p.m. livestock judging will begin. There is also the Discover the Fair Scavenger Hunt from 4pm to 6pm. And finally, at 6 p.m. the silent auction begins and lasts the entire fair. Adair County Extension Youth Director Valerie Jaehrling says the silent auction will be a major fundraiser with a variety of items.

“There are lots of gift cards to area restaurants, themed gift baskets, really big bags of pet food, state fair passes, zoo passes, passes to Des Moines Playhouse, Kansas City Royals tickets came in the mail today so there is going to be a lot of stuff to look at and bid on.”

The night will close with a free barbeque, the crowning of the Adair County Fair Queen, a fair quilt auction and fireworks at dusk.

Tickets to get into the fair for ages 13 and up are $10  and for ages 12 and younger is $5. Also people can purchase advance admission for $40 for 5 tickets. All admission tickets will cover the grandstand events for that day. Additionally, Raccoon Valley Radio’s Big Red Radio will be broadcasting live each day of the fair through Sunday.
