Monday is when Greene County high school football players begin their preseason camp. There are no pads, not even helmets, but Coach Caden Duncan and his staff, will work with the players on the fundamentals of the game, plus working through the playbook.

Coach Duncan told Raccoon Valley Radio about the wealth of varsity experience returning for 2021. “We’re going to be pretty experienced. I think we bring back nine starters on defense, and are slightly switching our defense, just barely. It’s going to be pretty similar, so guys are already in spots they know fairly well. We’ve just got a couple of guys we need to step up. On the offensive side, we bring back six or seven starters, and we have a couple spots on the offensive line that are up for some competition right now, but we’ve been really pleased with how things have looked this Summer.”

The coach said the Rams have done well in the 7-on-7 passing competitions they’ve been do. “We played against nearby schools and did really well, which kind of comes with the territory of having experienced receivers, quarterbacks, and running backs.”

The majority of Greene County’s kicking and return game is also back from the 2020 team that went 7-3 and advanced to the round of 16 in the Class 2A playoffs. Over the past three seasons, the Rams have compiled a 24-7 record, and Coach Duncan is 16-5 in his only two seasons as a head coach.
