The day is finally here, as the City of Rippey celebrates its birthday.

The Sesquicentennial + 1 event begins with food trucks on 3rd Street, vendors on Main Street, and cinnamon rolls with water being served on the library lawn at 9am. Then at 10am there are town artifacts at the library, along with the parade and kid inflatables. An antique tractor ride follows the parade, along with an airplane show at the ballfield and lunch with an ice cream social at the United Methodist Church, all starting at 11:30am.

Starting at noon will be face painting and spin art at the shelter house, along with the Washington Winners 4-H Club selling water near the library and a photography display and bingo at the community center. At 12:30pm will be a kids pedal tractor pull, followed by a Big Bang Bubble performance at 1:30pm, both at the skating rink.

Rippey Mayor Dan Brubaker talks about the importance of having lots of kid-friendly activities to do.

“Well we need to have something for the youth because, in my opinion, if you don’t have something for the youth, the parents have no reason to stick around and enjoy part of it.

The Community Players of Greene County will perform “Bigfoot Monologues” outside of the library at 2pm, followed by the Greene County Cattlemen’s Association grilling burgers and a baseball game at the ballfield at 3pm. A time capsule will be opened following the baseball game.

Then in the evening starting at 6:30pm will be a performance by the Town and Country Band at the ballfield and there will be a street dance on 3rd Street with musical guest “16 Staples.” The event wraps up with fireworks at the field at dusk.
