Greene County High School cross-country opens the girls and boys seasons on Thursday of this week. Coach Jeff Lamoureux’s runners met with Raccoon Valley Radio yesterday. The coach reports 10 boys and five girls are out, which is less than he’d like, but there are enough runners to fill out varsity teams. Four runners score points and as many as six may run in varsity races.

Freshman Rylyn Sigler is new to cross-country, although she told Raccoon Valley Radio she did a bit of distance running in June. “I ran the Bell Tower Festival 5K and I enjoyed that. It’s hard, but you just have to keep going. She mentioned listening to music on headsets helped her, but that’s not legal in Iowa high school races, so she’s found that during practice she’s learned how to find motivation without music.”

The Rams go to the Gilbert Invitational Thursday to start the 2021 season on the Iowa State University Course in Ames for JV and varsity action with a 4:30 p.m. starting time. Nearly 20 schools are scheduled to take part.
