cowbell

When Perry visits Linduska Field in Jefferson this Friday night for the annual Battle for the Cowbell, it will renew one of Iowa’s longer high school football rivalries. Greene County head coach Caden Duncan said the cowbell is important not only to the players on the team, but the student body in general. “It’s means a little more when you have something you are playing for. They can see the cowbell and there’s something added when you have a trophy.”

The Rotary Clubs of Jefferson and Perry donated the cowbell in 1928 and except for a few brief stoppages, the bell has gone to the winner of this game ever since. The Rams have a 59-29-2 advantage in the series.

Friday’s game kicks off at 7 p.m. and it can be heard on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.
