cowbell

Ninety times high school football programs based in Jefferson and Perry have played with the winner keeping a cowbell at their school until the game the next year. Number 91 is this Friday night at 7 o’clock at Linduska Field in Jefferson when Perry visits Greene County. The rivalry actually dates back to 1898 when the Perry YMCA team defeated Jefferson High School.

Since the cowbell was introduced by the Rotary Clubs of Jefferson and Perry, Jefferson-based teams hold a 59-29-2 advantage in the series. The Rams won the last two games by scores of 54-0 and 49-0. Friday’s game can be heard on two of the Raccoon Valley Radio Network stations- KDLS 1310AM/99.7FM, and KGRA 98.9 FM. The game will be on streams for both stations.

Both teams lost their season opening games with the Blue Jays dropping a 33-0 home contest and the Rams losing at Guthrie Center vs. ACGC in overtime by a 29-27 score.
