early-voting-2

September is National Voter Registration Month and Dallas County Auditor Julia Helm is encouraging people to celebrate by registering to vote.

As the November 2nd mayoral, city council and school board elections are fast approaching, Helm invites those who are eligible to register to vote.

“Well, it’s just really important to make sure you get registered to vote, especially young people or people that are moving into the state and it’s an easy process: you fill out a form, you sign it and mail it into our office. I just encourage everyone to take time to get involved in their own communities and see who is out there running for your mayor or look at your incumbents and see what they are doing.”

The National Association of Secretaries of State (NASS) established September as National Voter Registration Month in 2002 as a way to encourage voter participation and to educate people on state requirements and deadlines for voting.

To register to vote in Iowa you must be at least 17-years-old. The deadline to pre-register before Election Day is October 18th as well as requesting an absentee. To look at your voter registration status or update your information you can go here.
