Greene County was on the road for high school volleyball on Thursday night vs. Roland-Story in Story City. It was the first time the Rams played away from Jefferson and the home-standing Norsemen won in three sets by scores of 23-25, 21-25, 11-25. Greene County lost for the first time this season and is now 4-1 overall and 1-1 in Heart of Iowa Activities Conference play. R-S improved to 2-0 in the league and 8-2 on the season.

The Rams trailed early by eight points in set one before getting within a point at 23-24. Set two saw Greene County fall behind by six points, then rally again, only to lose by four. The Rams scored the first point of the third set, then R-S ripped off 11 points in a row and won the set easily.

Coach Chris Heisterkamp reports Bella Schroeder led the Rams in kills with seven  Emma Shipley had five kills with four each from Brianna Habben and Kaylee Stalder. Schroder had two solo blocks and three assisted blocks. Emma Shipley had four assisted blocks with three by Habben.

The coach said “I am so very proud of how these girls showed up to fight. We’d find ourselves down by four or five, then we’d have a run of ace serves or blocks or other amazing plays and we would catch up , over and over for the first two sets. Our girls were all over the court making amazing plays, never letting up. We had a dip at the end and couldn’t get the passes to line up, but all in all, it was a great night of volleyball for Greene County. If anything, we proved to ourselves that we can hang with tough opponents if we keep fighting and keep believing.”

The Rams go to Eldora to play in the South Hardin tournament.
