A young Greene County High School volleyball team went 3-3 in  matches and 7-8 in sets on Saturday at the South Hardin tournament in Eldora. Coach Chris Heisterkamp’s team won the first two pool play matches, which the coach said hadn’t happened recently in this tournament. They went 2-1 in their pool and 1-2 in bracket play. The coach said the team served strong at 90% for 15 sets, more sets than the Rams had played the entire season until Saturday. She said passing became more consistent throughout the day, but the offense was up and down, so she’s looking for more consistency there. The coach added blocking wasn’t at full force and it hurt the Rams at times. “There were many teachable moments where we could look at the situation and identify how we should have handled it, and the girls did a good job of making those corrections for the next time. Overall, the six matches we played helped us get getter, individually, and as a team.”

Graci Cooklin was 39 for 39 serving with Katrina Heupel 50 of 52, Natalie Heupel 32 of 35, and Emma Ewalt 32 of 35. Bella Schroeder and Kaylee Stalder each had 18 kills with 12 for Emma Shipley, 10 for Ewalt and Brianna Habben, 5 for Natalie Heupel and 4 from Katrina Heupel.

For the season the Rams are 7-4 in matches and 17-12 in sets.

Next up for the Rams is a Sept. 16 Heart of Iowa Activities Conference match in Jewell vs. South Hamilton.
