Moving into the 21st Century is continuing to be a priority for the City of Perry, and multiple solar projects are continuing to make progress.

City Administrator Sven Peterson says as of now there are solar panels installed on approximately three of the City buildings, which is a City’s project, and work will soon begin on other buildings. Peterson says some of the hookups and connections are currently being waited on.

“Things are moving along really well. I believe they’re anticipating steel being on-site come November timeframe so they’ll be doing some prep work for that ahead of time. They’re hoping to have everything hooked up and plugged in by the end of the year so by the end of the year most of our buildings should be hooked into solar.”

Peterson tells Raccoon Valley Radio the second project, which involves the City and Alliant Energy, with their customer hosted solar program by installing one-megawatt of solar power at the Brownfield site which will allow the City to gather rental from the property and renewable energy credits.

“Once both of those projects are done, the City of Perry’s buildings and operations should have 100-percent solar  offset all of our electrical use in our buildings.”

Peterson says the community should be excited and proud of being able to reach that level of offset by solar energy.
