While a recent decision by a federal judge has allowed Iowa school districts the ability to reimplement mask mandates, the Adel-DeSoto-Minburn School District will not be doing so.

Superintendent Greg Dufoe says despite this temporary change in state law, the ADM School District will not implement a mask mandate.

“Our decision at ADM is to remain with masks as optional for staff and students. So, we have not changed course, we are remaining masks optional you know at this time.”

Dufoe tells Raccoon Valley Radio while masks are optional the district will continue to monitor how the pandemic continues locally as things are always subject to change due to the pandemic.

“We hope that things stay as they are and certainly remain optional and also keep minimal the types of mitigation that are in place so we can focus on teaching and learning and the school experience as it is meant to be. We have a lot of things to do from a teaching and learning perspective that we want to get at and focus our energies in that direction.”

While masks will not be required at the ADM School District, students still have the option to wear a mask if they are more comfortable doing so.
