As Falls Prevention Week recently finished, Guthrie County Hospital raised awareness that falls are preventable.

GCH Emergency Preparedness Coordinator Sandy Atkinson says Falls Prevention Week makes an emphasis to help clear a patient’s environment of slip, trip, fall items to prevent further injury. Atkinson talks about what they try to do for patients that are subject to falling.

“For a patient, if they would go home, do they need grab bars in the bathroom, do they need handrails placed where those stairs are, do they potentially need some adaptive equipment for say their toilet, or do they need a lift chair those types of things?”

Atkinson says an individual who is wanting additional assistance can work through Guthrie County Public Health and the Elder Bridge Program.
