Greene County had a full boys’ team and a partial squad of girls on Thursday at the Gowrie Golf Course for a Class 2A high school cross-country state qualifying meet. Coach Jeff Lamoureux’s boys’ team finished in eighth place among 14 teams. The top three teams and top 15 individuals qualified for the Oct. 30 Coed State Meet north of Ft. Dodge at Kennedy Park. The boys’ team qualifiers were Des Moines Christian 62, Clear Lake 70, Grundy Center/Gladbrook-Reinbeck 72. The Rams had 225 points.

Greene County was led Logan Woodruff, who covered the five kilometers (3.1 miles) in 18:30. Next for the Rams was Ethan Frederick 18:35, Noah Hinted 18:54, Gavyn Winters 19:15 Jayden Christensen 19:17. Jay Carstensen was timed in 19:29 and Colby Angell in 19:43.

The only Greene County girls were Olivia Shannon, who ran 23:17 and Autumn Stevens at 27:35.

Coach Lamoureux told Raccoon Valley Radio “Although we did not qualify for State, I am very proud of the effort of every one of our runners competing today. Just about every one of our runners had a personal best or season best. Their desire to compete was evident and I am extremely pleased with their effort.”

The cross-country season is over for both the Greene County girls and boys.
