Earlier this year the Perry City Council approved a 3D scan to be completed of Perry, and now the City is utilizing that data.

City Administrator Sven Peterson says the City has been learning how to use the data and in the future the City has plans on what to do with that information.

“The next steps with that would be taking the data that we have and manipulating it so that we can get our pavement condition index in areas, we can do our sidewalk assessments, things like that. Beyond that I think there is a lot of other opportunities, autonomous vehicles or tree inventories things like that. Really kind of almost limitless possibilities.”

Peterson tells Raccoon Valley Radio the 3D scan of Perry offers a unique opportunity to rebuild if there was ever an incident like last year’s derecho or other natural disasters.

“One of the things that we are probably going to do, we now have a complete 3D scan of our downtown, we can archive that in a way that if we ever have another natural disaster that destroys part of a building we could actually go in and have a 3D scan of the building for folks to rebuild.”

The agreement to do the 3D scan was approved at the June 7th Council meeting. The cost of the professional service agreement for the scan was $25,000.
