A recent warm up continues in the Raccoon Valley Radio-listening area as the final month of the year begins.

Weatherology Meteorologist Mandy Thalhuber says the warmer trend is above normal daytime high temperatures of 37 degrees and even the overnight lows of 19 degrees.

“The fact that we’re running a solid 20-25 degrees above average, that is again very, very rare. And to see one day is rare but to see this stretch of warm weather that we’ve been experiencing is even more uncommon.”

According to the National Weather Service, in the past week, the average daytime high temperatures for Jefferson has been 51 degrees. Thalhuber notes the factors impacting these warmer temperatures include the jet stream, placements of large highs and large low pressure systems and dry weather.

“We’re really not tapping into any sort of moisture or big systems that is providing us with any precipitation either. So temperatures really are just consistently running above average.”

Thalhuber adds, this weather pattern and warmer temperatures will continue through the middle of this month, with temperatures reaching into the lower 70s in southern Iowa.
