Greene County opened the high school wrestling season on Tuesday night with three dual meet victories. The competition and the duration ramps up for Coach Zach Beekman as the Rams wrestle in the Independence, IA two-day tournament starting at 2 o’clock this afternoon. There are more than 30 teams from multiple states scheduled to compete and wrestlers could end the weekend with as many as seven or eight matches under their belts.

The Rams are led by junior McKinley Robbins, the 2021 Class 2A State Champion at 120 lbs. He’s at 132 lbs. this season and is 3-0 with three pins to start the 2021-22 campaign. Robbins has a 37 match winning streak and 74-2 career record for the Rams.

Others with State Tournament experience for Greene County are senior Brenner Gallagher at 138 lbs. and sophomore Gavin Scheuermann at 152 lbs. Those two were 3-0 on opening night, as were senior Nate Black 160 lbs.  freshman Gavyn Winters 106 lbs., and sophomores Michael Rumley 220 lbs. and Broc Hamman 285 lbs.
