After several years, a civil lawsuit has come to a conclusion following a tragic fatal incident that happened in Greene County over four years ago.

In 2017, Pat Fields was killed when his tractor overturned after being hit by a semi-truck that was driven by Troy Shaw. During the investigation, the then 26-year-old was found guilty in 2018 of misdemeanors for possession of heroin, possession of drug paraphernalia and two traffic violations for failure to maintain control and failure to stop in an assured clear distance. He was sentenced to 90 days in the Greene County Jail and placed on probation for two years.

The family of Pat Fields then sued Landus Cooperative and Shaw Trucking Company for negligence when they hired Troy as he was driving a semi that was hauling grain for Landus Cooperative the day he struck Pat’s tractor.

According to the Story County Clerk of Court, the plaintiff dismissed the claims with prejudice against the defendant and signed off costs. The lawsuit was settled before it reached a jury trial and the terms of the settlement are confidential.
