A two vehicle crash in Greene County Wednesday results in one injury.

According to the Greene County Sheriff’s Office, deputies, along with Grand Junction Fire and Rescue, Jefferson Fire Department and Greene County Ambulance responded to the wreck at 6:03pm on Highway 30 near 16th Street in Grand Junction. The sheriff’s office reports that 71-year-old Jerry Peterson of Boxholm was driving a 2013 Ford Edge and heading east on the highway when he tried to pass a semi and hit a westbound 2014 Jeep Wrangler head-on.

The sheriff’s office says the Ford Edge rolled several times and ended up in the south ditch. The Jeep that was driven by a licensed juvenile lost control after the collision and went into the north ditch. Both vehicles were total losses. Peterson suffered injuries and was taken to Greene County Medical Center. The juvenile driver and three other occupants in the Jeep were uninjured. Both drivers, as well as the three other passengers were all wearing their seat belts at the time of the crash. Peterson was cited for unsafe passing.
