The Des Moines Register came out with its 2021 high school football All-State teams yesterday and Greene County sophomore Michael Rumley was named to the team as a defensive lineman. The nose tackle led all Class 2A players with the most tackles for loss and he was the lone Greene County player chosen. The Register picks one team for each of the seven classes.

Rumley told Raccoon Valley Radio he didn’t have a very good freshman season on the varsity and wanted to do better this year. He wants even more tackles for loss in 2022. As far as what helped him be not only a better football player, but better athlete, Rumley said, “Coach Duncan has a lot to do with that. We do a lot of (weight) lifting and throughout the summer we spend a lot of time on football practice, then we hustle to the (high) school and go lift. There were some wrestling things, too, Wrestling is a big part of my improvement, too.”

Rumley wrestled at 220 lbs. the first of the season and went 7-2. He weighs just 190 lbs, and plan on being at 195 lbs. tomorrow when Greene County wrestles in Gilbert vs. ADM and Gilbert.
