Charges have been filed against a Jefferson man following an officer-involved shooting in Adair County Wednesday night. 

According to the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, at 8:30p.m., a Stuart Police Officer attempted to stop a vehicle for a traffic violation, the driver refused and a pursuit ensued.  The chase ended in rural Adair County just north of 130th Street on Jordan Avenue when the suspect’s vehicle turned around on the roadway and a Stuart Police vehicle struck the suspect’s vehicle. The suspect’s vehicle traveled further down the road and was also struck by a Guthrie County Deputy’s vehicle.The suspect allegedly fired shots after the  chase. An Adair County Deputy observed the suspect, 57-year-old Charles R. Bradshaw of Jefferson was in possession of a handgun and shot Bradshaw  in both of his arms. Bradshaw was transported to Methodist Hospital in Des Moines with non-life threatening injuries.  

After Bradshaw was treated for his injuries, he was then arrested and charged with felon in possession of a firearm, felony eluding and several traffic violations. The DCI was then asked to investigate the matter, since it involved an officer shooting a suspect. The Adair County Deputy who fired the shots at the suspect is placed on administrative leave as the investigation continues.  

The Stuart and Greenfield Police Departments and the Guthrie and Adair County Sheriff’s Offices responded to the incident.
