A new year comes with a new set of goals for one local school district that will be focusing on the professional learning community (PLC).

Perry Superintendent Clark Wicks says one of the priorities for this year is continuing to provide a safe learning environment to keep the doors open during the pandemic. Wicks says another goal is to elevate the PLCs which is a collaboration group that works to improve teaching skills and academic performance of students.

“We are investing highly into our PLC’s both as far as personnel as far as PD (professional development) every Wednesday and the ultimate goal is this: we want to have students be successful.”

Wicks tells Raccoon Valley Radio he wants to have the PLC’s operating at a high level and an upcoming national conference will allow for more growth.

“We are going to have three days to attend a national conference, that’s every teacher attending the National PLC Conference in Des Moines, three days in September. Huge investment for kids, for learning (and) student success.”

The National PLC Conference will be held in Des Moines this year from September 21-23.
