In 1998, then Jefferson-Scranton senior basketball player Adam Jones was coming off first team All-State honors and it was time to make a college choice. He was invited to walk-on with the U. of Northern Iowa Panthers, but instead chose to go the NCAA DIII route at Buena Vista University in Storm Lake. It was a decision that worked out well.

Jones, a shooting guard, left BVU as a first team All-American and Jostens DIII National Player of the Year. He was a three-time Iowa Conference all-conference selection and left as the school’s number two all-time scorer. He also met his wife, Steph, at BVU, so saying it worked out is a bit of an understatement.

Jones and four others were inducted Thursday night into the Greene County High School Athletic Hall of Fame. He told Raccoon Valley Radio former North Carolina and U. of Iowa player Steve Krafcisn was recruiting him at NIACC (Mason City). Jones said the NIACC coach realized early into the conversation that the Rams wasn’t going to enroll at NIACC, but he told Jones to go where he felt most comfortable, which is what he did.
