U.S. Congresswoman Cindy Axne

A U.S. Congresswomen introduced a bill that would help veterans with their secondary education.

Iowa’s Third Congressional District Representative Cindy Axne introduced a bill that called “Student Veteran Work Study Modernization Act,” would allow for part-time student veterans to access Veteran Affairs Work Study programs without taking unmanageable amounts of student debt. Axne states that as of right now part-time veterans that are part-time students don’t get included into the work study benefit programs.

Forty seven percent of student veterans are married and nearly half have one child or more. We know that they’re busy and they need to have the opportunity to go to school part time if they’re taking care of a family as well, and this bill hits on this.”

Axne says that this bill will require the Department of Veterans Affairs to allow veteran full time and part time students to be eligible for work study benefits.
