Danielle Hoyle won the Class 1A discus throw at the 2021 Iowa Girls State Meet in Des Moines for Paton-Churdan last May. She didn’t start throwing that implement until March of last year, so when Iowa State U. throws coach Dan O’Mara was contacted and told Hoyle was already enrolled at ISU, he asked to meet with her. She agreed to come out and walk on as a thrower for the Cyclones and the early results are exciting.

Brand new to the 20 lbs. weight throw, and to throwing indoors, Hoyle placed sixth among 18 throwers Friday in Lincoln at the Graduate Classic hosted by the U. of Nebraska. She was fifth among collegiate throwers at 58′ 6-3/4″ in the Cyclones’ first meet of 2022.

She’s so new to the sport her photo isn’t posted on the ISU women’s track & field roster, but as she keeps improving, it’s likely a photo in an ISU uniform will be forthcoming.
