Second year U. of Northern Iowa track & field athlete Carter Morton from Jefferson placed high in two jumping events Saturday indoors at the U. of Iowa Hawk Invitational in Iowa City. The son of Chad and Deb Morton tied for second place among 15 high jumpers at 6′ 6-3/4″, and he long jumped an even 23 feet to place seventh in a field of 25.

Morton is a heptathlete (7 events) indoors and a decathlete (10 events) outdoors for the Panthers. The meet was the first of 2022 and competing against specialists in those events and performing well was a good way to start the year.

The 2020 Greene County High School graduate lost his senior season due to the Iowa High School Athletic Association cancelling the season due to COVID-19 concerns. He excelled as a hurdler and high jumper in high school.
