A nationwide preparedness program recently recognized Guthrie and Adair counties.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the National Weather Service has awarded Adair and Guthrie counties again for taking the necessary steps to become StormReady counties. In order to get this distinction, Adair and Guthrie County Emergency Management had to develop plans to handle local severe weather and flooding threats. This includes having access to a 24 hour warning point and an emergency operations center, along with having multiple ways to receive and monitor severe weather forecasts and warnings to alert the public, promote public readiness and develop plans for hazardous weather plans.
The StormReady recognition will last from 2022-2026 until a renewal process will happen.
