Anyone needing help to create or improve their cover letter and resumes are invited to take a free workshop in Jefferson.

Iowa Central Community College and Greene County ISU Extension and Outreach are partnering together to host a Career Readiness Class on Thursday, March 10th at the Greene County Career Academy. Greene County Extension Director Lori Mannel explains why they are focusing the workshop on just cover letters and resumes.

“Writing an effective cover letter is what gets the initial attention to that employer, gets your foot in the door. So having a proper cover letter that explains your talents and why you’re applying to that job is really important. Then, of course, the next important thing is your resume. Whether you’re starting from scratch or whether you want to edit or tweak your resume, we’ll have all kinds of individuals there to help you with that.”

The free class will be led by Iowa Central Community College Career Services Coordinator Jessica Kavanaugh. Participants will also have access to computers to work on their documents during the class. The program will be held from 5:30-8pm, which also includes a meal. It is sponsored by McLaughlin Family Companies and Jefferson Telecom.

Registration deadline is March 9th by contacting the Extension office in Jefferson at 515-386-2138 or emailing Mannel at lmannel@iastate.edu
