daisy-award

The public is invited to celebrate the beginning of National Nurses Week with a special event at Greene County Medical Center later this week.

The DAISY Award is given to a nurse that exemplifies extraordinary patient care. The award began in 1999 when an illness took the life of Patrick Barnes and his family began a foundation to honor the nursing staff that took care of him in his final weeks. Chief Nursing Officer Susan Moore is happy that they are welcoming the public back to watch the ceremony in person, after only being able to show it remotely for the last two years because of the pandemic.

“We are excited to say that we’re going to be in person this year. We will also have our Facebook Live connection if people can’t come. But we ask that everyone continue, of course, to wear a mask. So that’s the need we have in the facility to protect our patients and each other.”

Moore says during the event, there will be a special guest speaker.

“The speaker this year will be discussing how to care for yourself and self-care things because we feel like that’s really important. That people realize that it’s okay not to feel like they are on top of the world, that they are tired, that’s okay to feel that. Then what can we do about that? So our speaker will be discussing that.”

The free event will take place Friday at 10:30am in the main lobby of the medical center. There are 11 nominees and they are listed below.
