The Greene County Rams qualified for the Class 2A boys’ shuttle hurdle relay on day one of the State Track & Field Championships at Drake Stadium in Des Moines Thursday afternoon. The quartet of Landyn Venteicher, Bryce Stalder, Nate Black, and Jackson Morton won their heat in 1:02.08, and that was good for the sixth fastest of the eight qualifying spots in Saturday’s 12:20 p.m. final.

Stalder was 14th in the long jump at 20′ 3″. The shuttle hurdle was at the same time as the long jump and Stalder had his best jump right off the bat, then went to run, and wasn’t able to improve his second and third jumps after just five minutes from completing his leg of the shuttle hurdle relay.

Olivia Shannon ran the preliminaries of the 200 meter dash in 26.70 seconds, and she captured the eighth and final spot in Saturday’s final at 1:55 p.m. It’s Shannon’s first trip to a State finals. She was ninth in the long jump at 16′ 6-3/4″. This afternoon, she will anchor the 4 x 100 and 4 x 200 meter relays that also include twin sisters Katrina and Natalie Heupel, plus Bella Schroder.

Black high jumps this afternoon, and Morton has the prelims of the 110 meter high hurdles, plus the finals of the 400 meter low hurdles.

Again today and tonight, all three Raccoon Valley Radio stations will have updates on area athletes from Drake Stadium in Des Moines.
