Greene County slew one dragon when it defeated Panorama 7-0 on Saturday night in the opening round of the Class 2A District 4 baseball tournament at West Central Valley High School east of Stuart. Next up is the king of 2A baseball in Iowa when Coach Matt Paulsen’s Ram play Van Meter tomorrow night at 7 in Van Meter in the semifinals. The Bulldogs have as good a resume’ as there is, with a 33-0 record, number one ranking, and State titles each of the past three seasons. The Bulldogs’ current winning streak is 48 games, going back to last season, which is by far the longest current winning streak in the state. Plus, they own a 21-5 victory over Greene County from earlier this season in Jefferson.

In the victory vs. Panorama, the Rams were good up and down the lineup and in each phase of the game. Seniors Bryce Stalder and Joe Carey combined to toss a three-hitter with 13 strikeouts. The Rams had eight hits including the first home run of senior Justin Stream’s career, and after errors on ground balls in each of the first two innings, the defense was stellar from the third frame on.

Tuesday’s game at Van Meter can be heard  on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com with air time around 6:30 p.m.
