The 2022 Dallas County Fair had a successful year and the warm summer temperatures weren’t enough to deter attendance.

This year’s fair had plenty of fun activities to enjoy including the many 4-H/FFA shows, demo derby and figure eight race that were mixed with extremely warm temperatures. Dallas County Extension Regional Director Ann Torbert says despite the warm temperatures people still came out and enjoyed the fair this year.

“The 4-H Food Stand on Friday went through twelve plus cases of water warm and sold out of Powerade warm, it was that warm. We really appreciated all the folks who came out and joined us here at the Dallas County Fair this year, we saw lots of families here and we know that the sponsorship has really helped us be able to have free gate. That matters, so you are not paying a fee to get into the fair, I think that helps with attendance.”

Other major highlights during the fair included the ribbon cutting for the brand new extension building on the fairgrounds. Torbert tells Raccoon Valley Radio another high point including one of their own in Ag Program Coordinator Aleta Cochran being named as the nominee in Dallas County for the Iowa 4-H Hall of Fame in 2022. Torbert says it’s a tradition for counties to select people who support 4-H youth development in their county.

“It was a surprise, she had no idea. We had asked if the Fair Board would be happy to honor her selection at the sponsorship dinner which they did. Her family arrived, she had no idea her family was coming. We appreciated the tickets for dinner that the Fair Board made available to us and it was a great way to celebrate her support of the 4-H program here in Dallas County.”
