The 2022 Greene County Fair wrapped up Monday with the final two events.

Greene County ISU Extension Director Lori Mannel says there were about 300 people that attended the Appreciation Breakfast, served by the Greene County Fair Association. Then following the meal with the Junior Premium Auction. This is where individuals, groups or businesses bid on Greene County 4-H’ers and their projects and accomplishments throughout the county fair. Greene County Fair Board Secretary Doug Hawn says $31,800 was raised this year, which surpassed last year’s over $25,000. Additionally, the “Friends of the Fair” will also donate an equal amount of money to each of the over 150 Greene County 4-H’ers.

Another highlight of the Greene County Fair was the crowning of the fair queen. Hannah Curtis is this year’s queen and she describes her initial reaction when she won.

“I was really surprised. I mean the other two girls who are also really great. And doing this last year, I mean obviously I wasn’t fair queen last year and I just wanted to try again and I’m just very surprised and very happy that I’m fair queen this year. I wanted to do it this year because last year I was just a fresh, graduated (high school) senior and I really didn’t have any real world experience. So then I went to college and was just kind of like, ‘Oh wow, I know a lot more than I did last year.’ And I think it’d look really good if someone who came back to Greene County, represented Greene County.”

Curtis received a $500 scholarship from Humboldt Mutual Insurance and she will represent Greene County at the Iowa State Fair. Additionally, there were 24 4-H static exhibits that qualified for the Iowa State Fair.
