Greene County sophomore Noah Hinote ran in the Class 2A boys’ State Cross-County race on Friday afternoon north of Ft. Dodge at Kennedy Park. The first-time State participant ran the five kilometers (3.1 miles) in 18:37.70, good for 101st place among 132 runners. His goal was to finish in the top 50 percent.

Hinote is the first sophomore in quite a few years to run a State Cross-Country race for the Rams and the first boy from here in at least a decade to do so.

The West Central Activities Conference had quite a day in the 1A and 2A races on Friday. Not one, but two girls’ teams from that conference won team championships and the ACGC boys were second in 1A, and the boys from Des Moines Christian were the 2A champions. Earlham won the 1A title for girls and Van Meter placed first among 2A girls’ squads.

Saturday morning there will be more reports on the Raccoon Valley Radio stations as the 3A girls and boys from ADM and 3A boys from Winterset will field full teams. The 3A girls run at 10:30 a.m. and the race for 3A boys is at 11:15 a.m.
