Fall sports at Greene County High School have ended and 2022 finished with success in all three of the sports sponsored by the district.

Coach Chris Heisterkamp’s Greene County volleyball team went 5-2 in the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference and tied for second place among the eight teams in the league, their best finish is some time. Overall, the Rams were 16-11, good for a second straight winning season, and a second season in a row with 16 victories.

Cross-county under head coach Jeff Lamoureux had a second place HOAIC finish on the boys’ side and sophomore Noah Hinote was a State Meet Qualifier, finishing in 101st place last Friday in the 2A race for boys north of Ft. Dodge at Kennedy Park. Hinote was the first Ram since 2017 and first boy from here in a decade to run in a State X-C race.

Football, under the direction of head coach Caden Duncan, was 8-2 overall, won its first round playoff game, and advanced to the Round of 16 before losing to West Lyon (Inwood) 43-7 last Friday at Linduska Field. The Rams were 2A District 8 champions for a second straight season and were 5-0 in district games both this season and in 2021.

The district fields girls and boys basketball teams, as well as wrestling in the Winter months. Practice starts on Nov. 7 for girls’ basketball and on Nov. 14 for boys’ basketball and wrestling. Girls wrestling is sanctioned for the first time by the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union and those practices begin today, but Greene County is not anticipating any high school girls to wrestle.
