small-business

Tomorrow and Saturday have their own designations to remind people to do their holiday shopping locally.

Jefferson Matters: A Main Street and Chamber Community Director Matt Wetrich tells Raccoon Valley Radio tomorrow is known as “Wear Plaid Friday” and the next day is “Shop Small Business Saturday” where several downtown retailers in Jefferson will have specials and other items for purchase to jumpstart the holiday shopping season. He points out these smaller businesses and retailers are a part of the fabric of the Jefferson community, which you don’t always get with a big brand name business.

“These are friends and people we see at church and at the grocery store. And they’re supporting their family by our business being given to them and they in return support the local organizations. You don’t get a sponsorship from Target, but you do from Fudge’s Flowers, or Meythaler Photography, or whoever it may be. They’re investing their tax money here, they’re supporting the tax base. And those are all things that make a community thrive and help it grow.”

Wetrich adds the money that people spend at these locally owned businesses and retailers stays and is re-invested into the community.
