The cause for a Thursday morning house fire in Jefferson has been determined.

The Jefferson and Grand Junction Fire Departments, along with the Jefferson Police Department, Greene County Sheriff’s Office and Greene County Ambulance responded to the call of the residential fire at 10:17am at 405 East State Street. The homeowner and two cats made it out safely.

Jefferson Fire Chief Jack Williams said an electrical issue in the basement of the two-story home caught fire which resulted in heavy damage in the basement and mostly smoke damage to the rest of the residence. No one was hurt in the incident.
