Nevada continued its recent mastery over Greene County in Heart of Iowa Activities Conference basketball on Friday night in Jefferson. The girls from Nevada pulled in the second half to win 41-15, and the Cubs won the boys’ game in overtime, 76-73. The games were heard on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.

The Rams fell to 0-19 overall and 0-13 in girls’ basketball, but trailed by only 18-9 at intermission. The Rams scored just three points in the third quarter and three more in the fourth while the Cubs had 23 second half points to increase their season record to 10-10 and 8-5 in the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference. Emmas Strottman scored 10 points for Nevada and Greene County was led by five points from Esther Van Horn.

The boys game went to overtime after 6′ 7″ Carson Rhodes, an Iowa State football recruit, tipped in a missed shot just before the buzzer sounded to end regulation and send the game into OT. The teams traded leads over the next four minutes with Greene County ahead 73-72 before the Cubs went up 74-73. The Rams had the ball and were attempting to set up a potential game-winning shot, but a turnover resulted in a final Nevada basket in the final second of the game. Richard Daugherty topped 1,000 career points with 33 on Friday night. Jesse Miller added 16 and Gabe Ebersole had 10. Jacob Khousouroth had 30 points for the Cubs and Rhodes added 17. The Rams are 6-7 in the conference and 7-11 overall. The Cubs improved to 10-3 in the HOIAC and 12-7 overall.

Both Greene County teams are at home on Monday with non-conference opponent Southeast Valley (Gowrie). The games can be heard on KG98 and streaming on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.
