A former Jefferson man has been charged for violating his parole and prison sentences.

According to court documents, 35-year-old Juan Guzman had allegedly violated the terms of his probation for two years on two previous convictions in October of 2020 for theft, and February of 2021 for domestic abuse. He also was convicted in April of 2021 on two felonies for forgery and was sentenced to prison for no more than five years.

Court documents show that Guzman’s probation officer reported that Guzman failed to report to the Greene County Sheriff’s Office after being sentenced to prison that April. Guzman also failed to pay off fines and victim restitution from the April 2021 conviction, as well as undergoing a Batterer’s Education Program from the February 2021 conviction for domestic abuse.

A warrant was issued on April 28, 2021. The sheriff’s office recently found out from a nationwide warrant that Guzman was being held in a jail in Texas on unrelated charges there. Guzman was recently extradited back to Greene County. Greene County Attorney Thomas Laehn mentioned to the County Board of Supervisors last week that he considers the seriousness of the crime as well as the age of a crime as some of the factors of whether or not to travel that far to bring a criminal back to Greene County for prosecution. Guzman is currently being held in the county jail without bond.
