Greene County High School senior Kale Petersen is one of three finalists for the Class 2A Dan Gable Mr. Wrestler of the Year Award. A combination of votes from panelists and the public determines the winners and voting is open now through Feb. 20. More details are available on the IAwrestle website.

Petersen is 36-0 this season, 105-9 in his career and is aiming for a third individual State title later this month. He’s won his last 66 matches, going back to the 2020-21 campaign when he was at West Fork (Sheffield). He won his final 19 matches there and is 49-0 for Greene County. Petersen won the 106 lbs. crown for WF as a sophomore, then captured the 2A 120 lbs. title last year for Greene County. He is ranked number one in 2A this season at 132 lbs.

Coach Zach Beekman’s Rams are off until Feb. 11 when State tournament qualifiers are determined at a Class 2A District Tournament in Webster City starting at 10 a.m. The State Tournament is Feb. 15-18 at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines.
