Two suspects have been arrested and charged for an alleged January incident that happened at Wild Rose Casino in Jefferson.

According to court documents, 42-year-old Brandon Svaleson of Boone won a jackpot of $1,231 from a slot machine on January 15th at 4:46pm. However, 31-year-old Katie Wisecup of Ames was playing on a machine next to Svaleson and slid to his machine and tried to claim the winnings.

Brandon Svaleson

Because each state-run casino has a Division of Criminal Investigation agent assigned, that individual reviewed the surveillance video, and determined Svaleson won the jackpot. His identification was run through the Iowa Department of Administrative Services Offset Program, and he owed the state of Iowa over $24,000. The jackpot winnings were applied to his debts with the program.

Both Svaleson and Wisecup were charged with a Class D Felony for gambling-avoid setoff and an aggravated misdemeanor for third degree fraudulent practice. Both suspects were arrested this past week and were booked into the Greene County Jail. Raccoon Valley Radio will bring you more information as it becomes official.
