The Jefferson Elks Lodge has a couple of activities coming up.
Jefferson Elks Lodge #2306 Exalted Ruler Steve Smith says they are serving a Veterans Luncheon on December 7th from 11:30am-1:30pm at the lodge. This meal is free to all veterans and their families as a way to give back to those who served in the military and their families who supported them. He asks for reservations to be made by this coming Tuesday by calling the lodge at 515-386-2106 and leaving a message with a name and the number of meals. This event is co-sponsored with the Jefferson Elks, “Pork for Patriots” and Fareway.
Another program that the Jefferson Elks Lodge does is donating deer hides to disabled veterans. According to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, the donated deer hides are given to the Elks Veterans Leather Program that are professionally made leather gloves for wheelchair bound veterans and leather that is used for therapy programs for recovering veterans. The DNR states that over 4,700 hides were donated last year, which was about 200 more than the previous year.
The Jefferson Elks Lodge participates in the program and according to their organization, Andy Harland of Jefferson Ace Hardware was recently honored with the Service Award for the salt that he provides to the local Elks to use in the collection of deer hides that are given to their disabled veterans programs.
