For Adair County residents interested in plants, the Adair County Master Gardeners and Adair County Iowa State University Extension and Outreach will be hosting a winter sowing workshop.

Extension Youth Coordinator Caroline Savage says that the workshop is open to anyone who would like to participate, but is limited to 25 spots, so she advises to sign up sooner rather than later. She tells Raccoon Valley Radio why the event is one she suggests 4-H members participate in as well.

“So the idea behind hosting this workshop was to just give kids a jump start on their garden projects as well as the tub of bloom. So each club puts together a tub of flowers. They bring the static day and then we put those around the fairgrounds for the week of (the Adair County) Fair. So it was just an idea to get the kids excited, give them a little bit more knowledge, background information on doing these projects and kind of get them excited and thinking about what they can do for this spring.”

Savage says that the workshop will be held at Greenfield Mercantile on the square in Greenfield from 10am to noon on Saturday, and that there is no charge to participate.
