The 2025 hunting and fishing licenses are now available in Iowa.
Department of Natural Resources Conservation Officer for Greene County Aron Arthur reminds anyone who had an annual hunting or fishing license from last year that those expired on January 10th and so people need to purchase new ones so they can avoid receiving a citation. He advises people who bought a three year license to check that those have not expired yet. With fishing season coming up next, Arthur states there is a hefty fine for anyone who is over the age of 16 and does not have a valid fishing license, the fine is $135, plus additional penalties for any fish that are caught, because those are considered illegal wildlife.
Arthur explains if someone breaks the laws too many times, they can eventually lose their fishing license.
“And if you get enough of those ‘points’ by not abiding by those rules, you can lose your hunting or fishing privileges under our Multiple Offender Act. Which is where, each violation collects points (and) once you get to five or more points that starts your suspension of your hunting or fishing privileges when you commit fish and game violations.”
Arthur adds that it is a lot cheaper to purchase an annual fishing license for $22 and obey the fish species limit at different bodies of water instead of paying high priced civil penalties. One way to purchase a fishing or hunting license is through the DNR “Gooutdoors” app on an electronic device or through your respective county recorder’s office.
