An Iowa legislator shares his thoughts on how the 2025 Legislative session unfolded.
Iowa District 28 House Representative David Young acknowledges he is grateful for the opportunity to work on bills that are not only important to him, but to citizens too. He points out a bill he was happy to see get signed into law was House File 782 pertaining to prohibiting cell phones during instructional time. He believes that students should be giving their full attention to teachers and also be interacting with their peers.
Young mentions an issue that he is disappointed did not get completed revolves around property taxes. He reveals that the House could’ve taken a “band aid approach” to address some areas, but tells Raccoon Valley Radio they are holding off in order to take a bold move in the next session. Young wants to focus on putting Iowans first.
“Our property taxes are out of control, and some people who have paid off their houses over decades are finding themselves in a situation where their property taxes have been more than their mortgages. We want to make sure that Iowans can stay in their homes, we want to make sure that Iowans are at the forefront in this debate, and that their local services are taken care of as well.”
Young says he’ll be working on doing study groups throughout the summer and fall to grab the public’s feedback.
