US Senator Joni Ernst made a stop in Greenfield Tuesday afternoon.

The visit included a tour of a home built by Greater Des Moines Habitat for Humanity. Representatives of the group Rachel Ong and Lance Henning, along with the home buyer Connor Tonderum conducted the tour, showing Ernst the unfinished interior of the home, and sharing what rooms would end up where and discussing the two house project for Habitat for Humanity.

Senator Ernst shares why it was important for her to make the trip to Greenfield to see how the town was recovering.

“We want to make sure that the members of the community are able to rebuild. Are they able to rebuild their businesses? Part of the recovery process is bringing in FEMA and the Small Business Administration and others that can assist with that. We also have wonderful organizations that are outside of the federal government, like Habitat for Humanity, and we want to hear about the good things they’re doing so we know, where can our federal dollars best be invested to make sure they are making a difference.”

Ernst mentioned that she is overjoyed to see the incredible amount of work that has gone into the town’s recovery, noting the destruction that could be found in the first days after the tornado had torn through, and the new buildings filling in where the old ones used to be.
