The Iowa Department of Natural Resources is underway with its enforcement of a special initiative during the 4th of July holiday.
DNR Conservation Officer for Greene County Aron Arthur says Operation Dry Water is specifically designed to look for individuals that appear to be operating a boat while under the influence of alcohol.
“When you’re on the water, there’s several effects of alcohol there are increased, due to the sun, due to the waves, due to the motion, and it has the same level as a car. So you can’t be above 0.08 (blood alcohol level) and operating a motor boat while intoxicated and we do look for that because that’s a serious thing. You know, people do go out and drink while they boat which they can do, you just can’t operation, no different than a car, you can’t operate intoxicated.”
Arthur adds that their initiative is July 4th-6th.
